COVID-19 Update: Club Closing

Our most recent communication on Friday, March 13, stated the Club would be open regular hours and programming and classes would be suspended. Since then, the CDC has recommended that gatherings of over 50 people should be cancelled or postponed at this time. We are taking this recommendation very seriously. The health of our staff, members and community is of utmost importance.

Due to these recommendations, the City of Germantown has made the decision to close Germantown Athletic Club, Germantown Performing Arts Center, the Germantown Community Library and The Great Hall & Conference Center until further notice. All Parks and Recreation programming has also been canceled. The Club will close today, Monday, March 16, at 5 p.m.

We will continue to update members through email, Facebook and our website. App notifications will also be pushed out. Please ensure app notifications are turned on if you are using this as a means of communication.

Due to this disruption in your membership, the Club will prorate dues for the amount of time we are closed. Credits will be issued once we reopen. We will not issue refunds.

As regular exercisers, we know you understand the value of staying active. We are looking into offering some virtual group fitness classes and we will provide details once we have more information. In the meantime, please follow social distancing suggestions and stay informed using credible sources such as www.CDC.gov/coronavirus.

We realize there still may be questions after this notification. We will make every effort to respond as quickly as possible. Emailing us at info@gacfitness.org is the best way to communicate, however, we can also be reached at 757-7370 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We will continue to monitor the situation and follow the recommendations of county, state and federal health authorities, with the hope of reopening as soon as possible.

Lastly, we are grateful for our members and our team during these uncertain times. Thank you for your support and understanding. We look forward to brighter days ahead.

Programs and Classes cancelled Effective March 16

What is Germantown Athletic Club doing about COVID-19?

The Club is continuing to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as it continues to evolve. We realize the importance of communication as we work to ensure the health and safety of our staff and members.

In respect to the national situation and the advice of numerous health organizations, the Germantown Athletic Club has decided to ultimately put the following precaution in place to mitigate the spread of the virus through social distancing practices. This precaution includes canceling all scheduled programming including: group fitness classes, child care, spring break camp, swim team, swim lessons, and party rentals at the Germantown Athletic Club. The cancellations will be effective beginning on Monday, March 16 and will include all programming that is scheduled through the end of the month. At this time, the Athletic Club will still remain open normal business hours even though all programming has been suspended.  If you do choose to use the Club during this time please take heed the CDC's guidelines to help mitigate risk.

What can I do to minimize my risk of getting COVID-19 at the Club?

  • Stay at home if you have fever, runny nose, cough, sneezing or other respiratory symptoms, or if you believe you are sick.

  • Wipe down equipment BEFORE and AFTER you use it.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, or having been in a public place.

  • Use hand sanitizer, we have them located in many places throughout the facility. Our hand sanitizer is 71% alcohol and meets standards.

  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your arm, not your hands, when you cough or sneeze.

  • The key to being healthy is holistic wellness. Take care of yourself. Stay hydrated. Maintain a balanced diet. Get plenty of sleep. Staying well is much more than just avoiding sickness. If you do experience any symptoms of cold, flu, or otherwise, please stay home to prevent the transmission of disease.

Who is at higher risk and what should they do?

It is important to note that the CDC has gathered information showing that some people are at higher risk of getting very sick from this illness. This includes older adults (ages 60 and up) and those who have underlying chronic medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes.

The CDC recommends people who are at a higher risk to stay home and avoid crowds as much as possible. Other recommendations include:

  • Stock up on supplies.

  • Keep space between yourself and others.

  • Keep away from others who are sick and wash your hands often.

  • Avoid cruise travel and non-essential air travel.

  • During a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed.

  • To the extent possible, avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places - elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc.

  • Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. Your risk of exposure to respiratory viruses like COVID-19 may increase in crowded, closed-in settings with little air circulation if there are people in the crowd who are sick.

How will we communicate to members?

We will post a banner on our website that will be updated when there are changes.  We will also communicate through email to all members that have a current email on file.

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this difficult and challenging situation. Our members health and well being is of the utmost importance to us.  For the health and safety of our membership community please heed the guidance and recommendations of the CDC. Together we keep our Club safe.

Coronavirus Information

In the wake of flu season and recent developments of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) we feel it is our responsibility to not only keep you healthy, but also to keep you informed.

We are monitoring updates and advice regarding the COVID-19 outbreak through local, state and federal health officials, and are taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of illness in our facility. For the most up to date information please visit the CDC's website

Our staff has been working collectively on enhanced cleaning protocols and has increased the frequency in which we disinfect high-use surfaces such as door knobs, bathrooms and fitness equipment. We have reviewed our daily cleaning schedule and have made adjustments where necessary. Our child care area has also increased the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing toys as well as carpets.

Please join us in this effort to keep everyone healthy and safe.

  1. Utilize the wipe stations located in all fitness studios, weight floor and cardio areas. Wipe your equipment off before and after usage.

  2. Use hand sanitizer when entering or exiting different areas of the facility. Carry a travel size bottle with you.

  3. Wash your hands as often as possible with warm, soapy water. Do this for at least 20 seconds.

  4. Cover your mouth and nose with your arm when you cough or sneeze.

  5. If you are not feeling well take the night (or day) off from coming to the Club.

  6. If your child attends Child Care follow the sick policy on page 6 of the Family Welcome Packet.

We will maintain our commitment of keeping the Germantown Athletic Club a safe, clean environment, and ask that each of you help us ensure the health, safety and well-being of our membership community. We are continuing our efforts for improvement in this phase of renovations by refurbishing and modernizing the elevator. During this process the elevator will need to be closed for approximately four weeks beginning Thursday, September 12.

While the elevator is closed for renovations, an alternate ADA entry will be available for those wishing to utilize the first floor. This access point will only be available to members who have limitations preventing them from using the stairs. The alternate ADA entry will be located between the Club entrance and the GPAC entrance. All other members will continue to use the temporary entrance.

The ADA entry will be staffed Mondays through Fridays, 7-11 am and 2-6 pm and Saturdays, 8-11 am. If access is needed outside of these hours, members can call 901-757-7370, and a staff member will be available to assist them. ADA parking is located directly in front of the alternate entry. Please see the map above to view the alternate ADA entrance and parking locations.

We realize this is an inconvenience to some; therefore, a membership freeze option is available at no charge for those preferring to wait to visit the Club until the elevator renovations are complete. Please contact Membership Sales Coordinator, Andrew Pitts, at 901-751-5680 if you would like to freeze your membership.

New Entertainment Apps

Burning calories at GAC just got real! The touch screen consoles on the Precor cardio equipment just received the latest upgrade. Now you can binge watch your favorite shows on Netflix or Hulu while working out. The upgrade also includes access to WatchESPN, Spotify and iHeartRadio.

A personal login and password for these apps will be needed for access. The instructions on the console are easy to follow and can be completed in just a few minutes. This short video will show you how.

Another new feature in this update is Single Sign-On. Once the account login and password are entered for your personal audio and video entertainment accounts, this won’t have to be done again during future workouts. A single sign-on to start the workout is all that is needed. Additionally, you can easily manage your logins and passwords through a new feature on the console called My Profile.

While the update will make new ‘app tiles’ visible on the screen for each of the available entertainment apps, it does not affect how you sign onto your Precor personal account.

We hope you enjoy these new features! Let the calorie burning begin. #bingeandburn
